July 2018 – Heaven’s Crooked Finger – Hank Early

Photo Jul 24, 6 34 31 PM*Make sure you follow our book blog so that you don’t miss one of our meetings!  We love books, discussion and whatever else comes across our path.  Which is what book club is all about! Dare to BARE your soul at book club!

Our July book was Heaven’s Crooked Finger by author Hank Early .  Author was present for our meeting – how lucky are we!  We were very pleased to have him stay at the Solis Hotel (right beside the Porsche Headquarters in Hapeville).  He brought a good friend with him who is also a fellow teacher to explore Atlanta before our meeting.  Thank you so much for coming over!  For author website click HERE

We gathered at Linda and Georgie’s home. Thanks so much for hosting!! I know Seth just had his wisdom teeth out (he looked like a chipmunk too cute).  Our group was a lively bunch – which is pretty normal.  Hopefully we didn’t scare our author!  I think he appreciated our enthusiasm.   It’s electric!  So many questions, discussions etc.   You can see our meeting via youtube!  Diane and I started with pre-book club cocktails (which is a must in any given situation) at Volare Bistro a favorite haunt of many which is located in Hapeville.  We then had a delightful meeting with all the girls (and Georgie) for book club.  On to post book club festivities with some of the gals and the Uncles who nested at La Petite Maison de Joie (my home in Historic College Park).  Always a fun evening – book club that is!  Note the watermelon colored crepe myrtles that Linda instructed Georgie to get for our center piece.

Part 1 – Main discussion

Part 2 – a short story being told by the author post discussion

We really enjoyed the book Heaven’s Crooked Finger.  Those crazy snake handling back woods red neck preachers and their followers.  Holy Cow. I’m being descriptive here… ahem.  Remember the wacky Sandtown Snake Handlers?  Click HERE for that story.   Here’s another clip by Anderson Cooper (I just adore him completely) about the snake handlers in Appalachia Holy snap.  Click HERE for the video.  Poor snakes is all I have to say! And poor children growing up in that mess! :::::running screaming::::::::  To each his own.  But just wow.
